There’s a lot going on in my country, the good ole US of A right now.

It’s an election year and our politics and media are full sending the fake news, biased information, and misdirecting as much as possible. And I don’t even know where to start on the fact a former president, and current running for reelection, just survived an assassination attempt. Literal historical events that will be in history books are in the making.

As if me, a millennial, has not witnessed enough history making events in my life. From 9/11 terrorist attacks and a decade long war, to housing market crashes, recessions, depressions, the subjugation of women’s uteruses, and now political violence, man I am tired.

And the audacity that other generations and even the media think they have the right to blame my generation for multiple problems created by other generations and also blame us for not having children and stimulating our future when the fact is we can’t afford to, and our country is currently on fire- so why would anyone want to bring children into our world right now?

Spare me.

Ive felt very existential recently with all that’s going on in the world. Not only two large wars on the other side of the world, one a power play and another a region/religion issue, but the idea that it only took four years with a weak and corrupt government, geriatric leader, and other powerful countries losing respect for the US, for everything to go to Hell. And not to mention the fact that the people in place of power and who are running our country are to busy searching for their backbone and counting their bribe money to defend their allies and protect their own people. Yes, we have had our own Americans, civilians and soldiers, die in these wars that our political leaders and media are conveniently silent on.

Our economic situation is trash no matter what you read or see on social media or the news tells you. No one can afford to buy homes and we can’t afford to rent either. Renting is just as expensive as owning right now. Interests rates are offensively high and bankers, lenders, and housing builders are just lying to the American people stating, “Everything’s fine and this is what it is and nothing will change”. Like we are expected to just accept that we are being finically assaulted by our own government and the banks and it’s just A-OK.

Please.

So not only do many people want to own or buy a house and can’t, but many are struggling to pay their bills with most Americans living paycheck to paycheck with little to No savings, and many are drowning in debt with high interest rates, even though they’re attempting to pay it off, they can’t afford to. The majority of Americans have no financial literacy and don’t understand how finances work, and lastly, the majority of Americans don’t have any future retirement saved up or plans for when they retire. So I guess as the American people get older we will all suffer and whither. Or if you have children, you’ll be one of those people who make it your adult children’s responsibility to take care of you when they have their own families or lives to deal with.

Bravo.

And that brings me to our medical care. For a country that’s supposed to be the ‘Bee’s Knees’ and every illegal immigrant is literally dying to get into, our medical care is trash. I’ve seen videos and have read articles on medical tourism and let me tell you I’m tempted.

It is cheaper to buy a plane ticket to either Japan or Turkey, be seen by their medical care and doctors and get a full medical work up including x-rays, CT scans, heart scans, bloodwork, physicals, and etc. and fly back home then it is to do all of that in the US. I have seen videos where people fly to these countries and they are able to get all of their exams and tests done in one or two days because these medical facilities are multiple floors with everything conveniently located in one building.

It is insane that other countries have such advanced medical buildings and care and yet the American medical care system is a system of referrals, pill pushing, testing and ridiculous charges on our medical bills that we have to pay out in installments because our health insurance is also crap, and we go through all this stress and pain just for these specialist doctors to just tell us, “You’re fine.”

When you find out that these doctors are paid by the pharmaceutical industry to push out certain medications, it makes a lot of sense that you’re constantly given a pill for an ailment instead of finding the root cause or the reason why you feel bad and how to actually fix it. I’ve been to many specialist for issues that I’ve had, paying a specialist CoPay with my crappy insurance, for them to just look at me and tell me ‘I’m fine.’

This is not only as a patient in general, but as a woman because let’s be honest, women and their health symptoms or problems are usually disregarded in the healthcare industry, shockingly even by their own female doctors and nurses. I honestly can say my own general practitioner doctor and her nursing staff are great, but the specialist doctors I have been to have literally compared me to war refugee victims and have told me I have nothing to worry about and that I have it easy.

There’s also the complete non-regulation of supplements and vitamins and the onslaught of ads you see when you are trying to better your health that is exhausting. I see so many ads on social media or through the Internet of what pills or powders I need to consume to be living longer, be healthier, blah blah blah.

I’m so over it.

I’m over the greed of corporations and our country. I’m over the fact that it’s more than apparent our government local, state, and country does not care about its people. I’m over American food being dangerous to consume and the American health care industry being in bed with the pharmaceutical industry with their pillow talk understanding of let’s keep Americans ill and charge them crazy amounts of money to fix the problems that they have created in the first place. I’m over the majority of the population so completely and easily distracted by celebrities, media, and just lies, that we can’t organize to do something about this.

It was easier in the beginning of our country to throw tea in a harbor and revolt when at that time we were only a fraction of the population of what we are now. We have been due for another tea party for a very long time however, it is very hard to get such a large population of people together when it is so diverse, spread out, and so easily manipulated.

So what does one do? Move ? Sacrifice your history, family, and everything you know and leave to somewhere else? What if it gets better here and you’ve already settled somewhere else? What if it gets worse, and you have family here and you can’t get them out? How bad does it get that you are willing to sacrifice some of the freedoms that you have here in this country to lose them to the rules of another?

I’ve entertained the idea of moving to a different country a lot. However, in all honesty, I don’t really want to move. I like the United States. I like our history and how we were founded. I like how expansive and diverse the land is. From beaches to mountains to canyons to lakes, there’s a lot to see and do here. I like what we used to stand for. For the past 20 years have we stood for what our original country was founded on? No not at all, but how much bending will the American people take before they break?

There is always a tipping point. There is always a reckoning. Looking at the history of the world’s great dynasties and great governments, they have always had turmoil and have toppled when faced with corruption, stagnation, and the masses have suffered.

Are we due for that soon? I honestly do not know.

Maybe we are too expansive, populated and distracted to care.

And maybe Costa Rica, Scotland, or Greece sound like a good places to plant new roots.

My journey continues,

Kaycee
